Andaz Apna Apna completed 30 years on November 4, and makers of the film are getting ready for the re- release of the film.
Priti, the daughter of late producer Vinay Sinha, shared that the film has been digitized, restored, and remastered in 4K. They are currently working on the sound and will finalize the re-release dates for next year shortly.
This Salman Khan and Aamir Khan starrer had its own journey with producer Vinay Sinha struggling to complete the film.’Andaz Apna Apna’ was scheduled to be produced in one year on a budget of Rs 1 crore. However, owing to several problems, including the unavailability of combination dates of all the actors and director RajKumar Santoshi’s other film commitments, the film faced a long delay and was finally completed in a budget of approximately Rs 3 crore over nearly four years.
The film was released on November 4, 1994, and distributors all over informed producer Vinay Sinha that the film was running houseful everywhere. In Maharashtra, the film was made tax-free, and it went on a silver jubilee run in then Bombay city and several other cities. The film recovered its investment slowly and steadily.
It is said that Producer Vinay Sinha did not receive his producer profits or overflow as there was no accountability then. People assumed over the years that the film flopped, despite the fact that it was an average hit and recovered Rs 8.50 crore at the time. The hit status of the film was also confirmed by several people in the film trade.
Years later, when producer Vinay Sinha was asked why he did not correct the terrible rumour that the film did not do well when, in fact, it was a hit, he stated that no one came to his face and said that his film was a flop; everyone who saw the film praised it immensely. He expressed pride in the film he made and that it is loved by many, not only in India but around the world.
Producer Vinay Sinha passed away in January 2020. Plans are now underway by his children—Namrata, Priti, and Amod Sinha—to re-release Andaz Apna Apna next year in 2025.
They hope the cast and crew will join them in promoting the film upon its re-release and that it will be seen and enjoyed by both longtime fans and new viewers who want to understand why this iconic film is so dearly loved.
