The development comes months after Ariana Grande divorced her husband, Dalton Gomez, just two years after their marriage in March.
Ariana Grande’s rumoured boyfriend and Wicked costar Ethan Slater officially ended his marriage with childhood sweetheart Lilly Jay, as per reports. Their divorce was legalised in New York on September 12. The development comes months after Ariana Grande also divorced her husband, Dalton Gomez, just two years after their marriage in March. The 31-year-old singer reportedly started dating Ethan Slater in 2023, who was married to Lilly at that time.
TMZ reported that the couple had filed for divorce in July 2023 and have now officially parted ways after 5 years of marriage. Notably, the terms of their settlement haven’t been disclosed. The report further stated that for the moment, Grande and Slater are maintaining a distance to keep their relationship respectful.
Ethan and Lilly began dating in 2012. Two years later, they relocated to NYC, where the now-actor pursued theatre. In 2018, the two said ‘I Do’ to one another and, four years later, welcomed their baby boy.
On the other hand, Ariana came under the radar when she was spotted in public without her wedding ring in 2023. Rumours soon intensified and were verified when Ariana and Dalton filed for divorce in September 2023. According to media reports, the former couple, who had always kept their relationship away from the media glares, separated without much drama in March 2024.
Previously, a source had mentioned to The People that Dalton’s career became an issue for the two. “She was happy in Los Angeles for a couple of years. She wanted to make a life there with Dalton. He is super focused on his career and needs to live in Los Angeles. It’s definitely been an issue for them. Dalton’s career is demanding, and he can’t leave Los Angeles often. So when (Grande) started filming Wicked in England, they were in for a long-distance marriage,” revealed the source.
Ariana and Ethan reportedly met on the sets of Wicked for the first time in December 2022. The latter is mostly known for playing the titular character in the musical SpongeBob SquarePants. The two have been spotted at several instances in the past from taking a walk in Disneyland to the singer attending her alleged boyfriend’s Broadway shows. Their movie Wicked is slated to release on November 22 while the second part will hit theatres next year.
