Sujoy Ghosh collaborated with Amitabh Bachchan again in the 2019 mystery thriller ‘Badla‘, following his 2016 film ‘Teen’. ‘Badla’ marked Ghosh’s eighth film and his fourth hit. With a budget of Rs 20 crore, the film went on to gross an impressive Rs 140 crore globally. The movie was produced by Shah Rukh Khan. In an interview with Mashable India, Sujoy Ghosh reflected on a photo of himself with Amitabh Bachchan from the Badla set.He shared that Amitabh Bachchan has been a major influence in his life and recalled a scene where Bachchan was rehearsing for what seemed like the 16th or 17th time. While everyone else, including Taapsee Pannu, was exhausted, some even dozed off, but Bachchan remained determined, insisting they continue rehearsing.
Reflecting on how ‘Badla’ came to fruition, Sujoy Ghosh explained that the film happened because of Taapsee Pannu. He mentioned that she initially brought the script to him, but he had declined to direct it at first. Later, Akshay and Sunil approached him with the same project, indicating they were making changes.
Ghosh agreed to direct it, but only on the condition that he could cast Amitabh Bachchan and rewrite the script. Once they accepted his terms, he took on the project.
