Sridevi is one of the most loved actress of Hindi cinema with a number of memorable films in her body of work. Due to her unparalleled on-screen presence, talent and beauty, fans immensely miss the actress after she passed away. Her memories through her work continue to remain. Not to mention, people who have worked with her continue to talk about the actress fondly. In a recent interview, choreographer-turned-directed Ahmed Khan has spoken about the actress. For those not in the know, Khan was a child artiste in ‘Mr India‘ starring Anil Kapoor and Sridevi.
Remembering some memories with her, Ahmed said during an interview that she wanted to learn break-dancing. So much so, that she bribed Ahmed. Talking about it in a chat with Siddharth Kannan, Ahmed said, “We were shooting a hospital scene that follows a bomb blast where one of the characters dies. It was a serious scene. She (Sridevi) took us to one of the doctor’s rooms and offered us ice cream. She said I’m not giving you this because I like you, you have to teach me break-dancing. So we taught her some moves. That’s how our friendship began.”
He also added that even as a child-artist, he could see that Sridevi was a reserved person but completely transformed herself into the character when the camera was on. “As everyone knows, Sridevi was reserved. I would observe that off-camera she would be reserved but once the camera began rolling, she became Seema, her character in the film, and would snap out of it once the director said cut. It was like Michael Jackson, who spoke softly but exploded on stage. We would think how did she do this? She was mahaan (great). She wasn’t friendly with us initially, but that changed,” he added.
Ahmed is currently directing ‘Welcome to the Jungle’, which is the third installment of ‘Welcome’. It stars Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi, Suniel Shetty, Johnny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Tusshar Kapoor.
