Ajay Devgn, who is gearing up for the release of two of the most awaited movies ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ and ‘Singham Again’, recalled an anecdote of how he signed Mahesh Bhatt‘s last last film as a director. Apart from Ajay, the film’s lead cast included Kunal Kemmu, Nagarjuna, Sonali Bendre and Bhatt’s daughter Pooja. It is based on the life of Mahesh Bhatt’s mother.
During an interview with Lallantop, Ajay Devgn shared the story of an awkward situation when he said yes to ‘Zakhm’.He shared, “I was playing him in the film. I remember, when I was shooting in Hyderabad, we didn’t have mobile phones then. I was in the shower when the landline in my room rang, the ones which used to be placed in the bathroom, close to your shower… I just picked it up, so the voice on the other side said, ‘Mahesh sir wants to speak to you’, he passed him the phone and then I said, ‘Bhatt sahab I am having a shower’, he said, ‘you just listen to me, I am directing the last film of my life, and I am quitting after this… he started to narrate the story, but because I was in the shower, I said, ‘Bhatt sahab, I am taking a shower, I will do the film’. That’s how Zakhm happened. After that, he never made a film. He stuck to his words.”
He also shared his working experience with Mahesh Bhatt and said that it was lovely to work with him. Ajay Devgn also talked about the film and mentioned that there were a lot of situations where he was simply standing there and acting, but the scenes were so powerful that he was doing nothing but feeling the emotion.
Ajay further added, “And Bhatt sahab was like ‘okay’. So that’s all I did. Whatever scene was being shot, I was just watching. There was no performance in the film.” He also said that Mahesh Bhatt never took retakes and it was very rare when he would.
On the work front, Ajay will be next seen in ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ where he will share the screen space with Tabu. The film is scheduled to hit the big screen on August 2. His much awaited film ‘Singham Again’ will be released on November 1, 2024. It is directed by Rohit Shetty and promises an ensemble cast including Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Akshay Kumar, Arjun Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Tiger Shroff.
