Amar Kaushik is currently basking in the success of his recently released horror comedy film ‘Stree 2’. The movie is still a hit in theatres, smashing multiple box office records. In the midst of this, the director thought back on ‘Bhediya’, one of his horror movies that had failed.
During a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Amar Kaushik Amar Kaushik discussed the reason for Bhediya’s poor box office performance, which stars Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. He said, “Yes. Our film didn’t get the numbers we wanted. It’s not like our film had disaster figures. However, we did wonder that ‘Jo number humne socha tha, woh kyun nahin aaya’ especially when everyone liked it.”
He went on to say that Drishyam 2’s box office performance was impacted by its success. He said, “However, Drishyam 2 had become a very big film and no one imagined it. That could be the reason. When a film becomes so humongous and a talking point, the other films do get affected. The tickets are also expensive and viewers can’t afford to see more than one film.”
He further added, “Many later saw Bhediya on OTT platforms. Hence, when he comes in Stree 2, everyone knows who is he and reacts accordingly. It proves that they have seen it and loved it. Very initially, some people had reservations about Bhediya’s appearance in Stree 2. But I reasoned that ‘We have made this universe. Bhediya has to be there.”
Theatregoers enthusiastically applauded Varun Dhawan’s cameo in ‘Stree 2’ as Bhediya, who saves Shraddha Kapoor. The cameos by Tamannaah Bhatia and Akshay Kumar end up being some of the movie’s highlights.
The film stars Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurrana, and Pankaj Tripathi in pivotal roles. While ‘Vedaa’ and ‘Khel Khel Mein’ are having trouble at the box office, ‘Stree 2’ has already made over Rs 300 crore globally.
