Amit Sial recently opened up about turning down a role in the Oscar-winning film ‘Slumdog Millionaire‘. Known for his performances in series like ‘Mirzapur’ and ‘Inside Edge’, Sial shared insights into his decision-making process during an interview with Bollywood Bubble.
Sial revealed that director Danny Boyle had approached him for the role of Salim, the elder brother of the protagonist. However, Boyle felt that Sial’s maturity and experience might not suit the younger character. Eager to take on the role, Sial proposed to lose weight and appear younger, but Boyle had concerns beyond just physical appearance. Sial recalled, “He said something amazing to me… ‘You have so many years of experience, how will you reduce that when you act?’”
He also shared that Boyle later offered him the role of the police inspector who interrogates the protagonist, a role ultimately portrayed by the late Irrfan Khan. At the time, Sial felt the character’s significance was not apparent, leading him to decline the offer. He reflected, “I didn’t understand its importance in the script at that time… Then I saw Irrfan Khan doing the role and creating magic in it.”
Looking back, Amit acknowledged that turning down these roles was part of his learning journey. He believes that each decision has shaped his career, stating, “Whatever happens, is for the best.”
