Anubhav Sinha’s directorial ‘IC814: The Kandahar Hijack’ has been in news as netizens have started a ‘boycott’ trend on social media for it due to the distortion of facts. This petition is fild by Surjit Singh Yadav, a farmer and president of Hindu Sena. The petition read, “The distortion of crucial facts about the real identities of the hijackers not only misrepresents historical events but also perpetuates harmful stereotypes and misinformation, warranting interference of this court to prevent further public misunderstanding and potential harm.”
For those not in the know, the Kandahar Hijack took place back in December 1999, by five Pakistani terrorists named Ibrahim Akthar, Shahid Akhtar Sayed, Sunny Ahmed Qazi, Zahoor Mistry, and Shakir.In Anubhav Sinha’s ‘IC 814’, the names of the Muslim terrorists have been changed to Hindu names and they are called ‘Bhola’ and ‘Shankar’. This has irked the audience and also hurt certain religious sentiments as facts are being distorted.
Amidst this, here’s recalling the time when Amitabh Bachchan also did a cameo in a film based on the Kandahar Hijack. This film in Malayalam starred Mohanlal in a pivotal role and was made by Major Ravi. On his blog, Bachchan had spoken about the movie and said that he did not charge any fees for it when the makers came to discuss his payment.
Big B wrote, “They (Mohanlal and Ravi) had come over to officially sign me on and make payments etc.. Ha..!! Payments? Fees? Remuneration? For a guest appearance of three days? With Mohanlal who has always had my greatest admiration? No way !! I don’t charge money for such acts. Respectfully declined their offer, gave them some home-made tea, shook hands, embraced and saw them off. It will probably be shot in Ooty,the picturesque and quaint hill station in the beautiful Nilgiri Range of mountains down south.”
