Ananth Mahadevan says Rishi Kapoor yelled at his son Ranbir Kapoor to refrain from acting in a movie: ‘He told filmmakers their film would fail

Late actor Rishi Kapoor, who was not only known for her incredible acting skills but also for speaking his heart out, often landed him in hot water for his remarks and reactions to trolls and critics.
During a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, actor-filmmaker Ananth Mahadevan recalled an instance that exemplified Rishi Kapoor’s extreme straight-forwardness. Ananth described an incident that occurred when he visited the legend at his home and said, “Well, he is an honest person.” He shared, “I don’t want to name the filmmaker or the film, but Rishi Kapoor was livid. He was constantly saying that he tried his best to dissuade Ranbir from doing that film. I told him ‘don’t do it, don’t do it, this film will not run.’ But he didn’t listen.” He added that Rishi Kapoor had no qualms about telling filmmakers directly that their movies would fail and that there was no point in making them.
“He was like that. You call it honesty. You call it pure delight. That was Rishi Kapoor,” stated Ananth Mahadevan, who made headlines recently for saying that his movie ‘Ghunghat Ke Pat Khol’ and Kiran Rao’s ‘Laapataa Ladies’ shared a lot of similarities.
Rishi Kapoor passed away on April 30, 2020 after a two-year battle with leukemia. He was 67. His last film was ‘Sharmaji Namkeen’. The late actor had started shooting for the film but couldn’t complete it. After his death, Paresh Rawal was selected to essay his role and complete the film. The movie was released on March 31, 2022, on an OTT platform.
