Angelina Jolie was joined by three of her children—Pax, Zahara, and Maddox—at the screening of her upcoming film ‘Maria’ during the 2024 New York Film Festival.
The actress smiled widely as she posed for a family photo as they walked the red carpet. Opening up about the significance of having her children by her side during the event, she said to Extra, “It’s meant everything.”
Reflecting on her children’s unwavering support, she shared, “Before you get into these things, you are always nervous. They just said, ‘No matter what, Mom… good luck, and we know how hard you work and we love you.’”
Jolie expressed how much it meant to know that, regardless of the outcome, her family would stand by her. “Succeed or fail, they care about you,” she added, noting that the night was all about enjoying the moment together. “We all said we are gonna have a good time tonight.”
Jolie also revealed that her sons, Pax and Maddox, had been present on set while she was filming ‘Maria’, revealing that they worked in the AD department and the photography department.
She recalled moments of vulnerability during production, including when her children witnessed her struggling with the emotional intensity of the film, even seeing her break down in tears. “They saw me learn how to sing, practice, and face my nerves. They were there when I broke down crying,” Jolie said.
Reflecting on how rare it is for parents to cry in front of their children, the actress shared, “Many of us that have children know you don’t often cry in front of them or express certain emotions. But to do that and then show them it’s okay—it was a special time for us.”
‘Maria’, which tells the story of famed opera singer Maria Callas, is set to debut in select US theatres on November 27, before hitting Netflix on December 11. Jolie, who portrays the legendary soprano, has generated significant Oscar buzz for her performance.
