Saudi animator Abdulaziz Almuzaini, best known for his satirical show ‘Masameer County‘, has landed in trouble. He has been sentenced to prison for 13 years, as well as a 13-year travel ban afterwards, reprots Siasat.
Almuzaini reportedly posted a video on X a week ago, informing his followers of the same, although it was later taken down. He posted a second video this week, which is still available on X at the time of writing.In the video, Almuzaini can be seen in a car, saying he is “banned from travelling” out of Saudi Arabia. According to a Wall Street Journal report, court documents in the case cited social media posts by Almuzaini, claiming that he was inciting terror and promoting homosexuality.
Abdulaziz Almuzaini has appealed to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for forgiveness, urging him to ensure justice for a citizen who has been unjustly treated, reports Economic Times.
Almuzaini’s 2021 series ‘Masameer County’ tackled subjects such as conflicts between Islamic militancy and tribes, homosexuality, and women’s rights. The show has been praised as a great criticism of issues in Saudi Arabia.
