When actors demand something, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap solves the situation by putting himself in such a low position that everyone involved feels ashamed by the end of it. Putting arguments and tantrums aside, Kashyap, who is regarded as one of theAnurag Kashyap reveals he chose cheapest room for Gangs of Wasseypur to embarrass actors requesting larger rooms: ‘That’s my way of problem solving’ sharpest Hindi directors of the times, stated that his goal is simply to make movies.
Giving the production of his critically acclaimed two-art epic gangster movie ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ as an example, Kashyap remembered how a difficulty arose when people of the cast insisted on having larger hotel rooms. The film starred Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Richa Chadha, and Huma Qureshi.
At the Marrakech Film Festival, the filmmaker said, “In Gangs of Wasseypur there was one known actor and other unknown actors. Some people said they wanted a bigger hotel room, so I said okay fine, and stayed in the smallest and the cheapest room. So, suddenly that equalised everything and people were embarrassed to ask for more things, because my cameramen and I were living in the cheapest rooms, which literally was big enough to only have the bed. So, people stopped asking for more.”
Because the movie was a massive multi-starrer, Kashyap disclosed that the fight for greater billing in the credits occurred not only in the production but also at the edit table. He stated, “Because the film had a big cast, everyone was fighting about whose name would come on top. I put my name in the bottom at the end of the film and said you guys decide. When I did that, everyone said okay, put our names at the end. That’s my way of problem solving– I want to just make the film.”
On the work front, the director is currently waiting for the release of his upcoming movie ‘Kennedy’, which stars Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone. He also recently shot his untitled next with Bobby Deol.
