Released in 2012, Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs Of Wasseypur is now a cult classic.
Anurag Kashyap revealed that he lived in the smallest and cheapest rooms while he was shooting Gangs Of Wasseypur. He said that some actors wanted bigger rooms.
Anurag Kashyap has always voiced his concern against the tantrums and the demands thrown by celebrities on movie sets. In a recent media interaction, the filmmaker revealed that he decided to opt for a smaller room while working on Gangs Of Wasseypur because some celebrities wanted bigger rooms.
Speaking at the Marrakech Film Festival, Anurag Kashyap revealed that he stayed in the smallest and cheapest room along with the camera man. The filmmaker revealed that he took this decision because some actors wanted a bigger room during the filming of Gangs Of Wasseypur. He mentioned that he opted for a smaller room so that others could get embarrassed and not ask for much. He said, “In Gangs of Wasseypur there was one known actor and other unknown actors. Some people said they wanted a bigger hotel room, so I said okay fine, and stayed in the smallest and the cheapest room. So, suddenly that equalized everything and people were embarrassed to ask for more things because my cameramen and I were living in the cheapest rooms, which literally was big enough to only have a bed. So, people stopped asking for more.”
Directed by Kashyap, Gangs Of Wasseypur was a two-part gangster drama. The movie starred Manoj Bajpayee, Huma Qureshi, Nawazuddin Siddique, Richa Chadha, and Tigmanshu Dhulia among others. In the same conversation, the director mentioned that they faced a similar problem when it came to who would get their names first on the credit list. He continued, “Because the film had a big cast, everyone was fighting about whose name would come on top. I put my name at the bottom at the end of the film and said you guys decide. When I did that, everyone said okay, put our names at the end. That’s my way of problem-solving– I want to just make the film.”
Gangs Of Wasseypur was released in 2012. The movie has grown to become a cult classic among film enthusiasts. On the work front, Kashyap was last seen in Maharaja where he shared the screen with Vijay Sethupathi.
