Ashok Saraf on the demise of veteran star Vijay Kadam: He was known for his versatility- Exclusive! | Marathi Movie News Filmymeet

Veteran actor Vijay Kadam who had made a mark in Marathi cinema with his sheer hard work and comedic performances, breathed his last today, August 10, 2024.
According to reports, the senior actor was suffering from cancer for the last one and a half years. He was undergoing treatment but this morning he passed away. The actor is survived by his wife and son.
Friends and family of the beloved veteran actor Vijay Kadam have been expressing their grief since then and among them is Marathi and Bollywood cinema’s veteran star Ashok Saraf.
In an exclusive interview with ETimes, the ‘Anandi Anand’ star, who shared screen space with Vijay Kadam, opened up about the bond he shared with the veteran actor, his memories and how Kadam’s passing is a big loss for Marathi cinema.
Expressing his grief, Ashok Saraf said ” I have lost my good friend today. He has been fighting death for the past several months. It’s a big loss to the film industry. Also, with the Marathi fraternity being small, we know each other on a personal level. So, whatever I say about it is going to be less.”
“He was not only a good artist, but a very good human being. He would portray a wide range of characters, from lighthearted to serious. He was known for his versatility in the industry.” Saraf concluded.
Meanwhile, the news of Vijay Kadam’s passing was confirmed by his friend and fellow actor Jaywant Wadkar. Jaywant informed ANI that Vijay Kadam, who had been bravely battling cancer, died at his Mumbai home at the age of 67. Jaywant revealed that while Kadam initially showed signs of recovery, his health eventually worsened, and he suffered an acidity attack about 25 days ago.
Reflecting on Kadam’s legacy, Jaywant said, “He was extremely talented. From Marathi cinema to Hindi films, he explored different kinds of projects throughout his decades-long career. It’s impossible to find an actor like him again. His death has left a void in the industry. He was like family to me.”
For the unversed, Vijay’s work on stage in the 80s to 90’s earned him real recognition. He has also done theatre for a long time. He was part of several Marathi films like ‘Tere Mere Sapne’, ‘Irsal Karti’, ‘De Danadan’, ‘De Dhadak Bedhadak’, and among others.
