Ajay Devgn is considered to be one of the most consistent box office actors of Hindi Cinema. Over the last 30 years, he has delivered blockbusters one after the other – from Golmaal series to Drishyam franchise to multiple Singhams. But the superstar seems to be struggling now to bring the audience to the cinema halls. The latest example being Neeraj Pandey directed Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha with Tabu, Jimmy Sheirgill, Shantanu Maheshwari and Saiee Manjrekar. The film can be easily dubbed as his lowest box office opening since the pandemic.
Four years ago when the pandemic brought the world to a halt, Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji- The Unsung Hero was the biggest hit of the year, with nearly Rs 280 crore collection in India.
Coming to Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, the film released on Friday to a disastrous response of just Rs 1.85 crore and day 2 saw a miniscule jump to Rs 2.15 crore. Saturday’s jump was more so on the back of the ‘ Buy One Get One’ offer, taking the 2 days total to just Rs 4 crore.
Post the pandemic, Ajay has delivered six theatrical releases as a leading man, and all of them have opened bigger than his latest release Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha. His first release post pandemic, was his own directorial venture Runway 34 and its two day total was Rs 8.50 crore. He followed it up with Thank God which released on the occasion of Diwali, which was on a Tuesday, and its two day numbers were Rs 14.1 crore. And next was Dhrishyam 2’s two day collection at Rs 36.97 crore. Bholaa, which was a remake of Kaithi, it’s two day collection was Rs 18.6 crore. And Shaitaan’s two day collection was Rs 33.5 crore. Even Maidaan which released on the occasion of Eid, and clashed with Akshay Kumar’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan had a two day collection of Rs 7.1 crore.
Ajay’s next release is going to be Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again which is up for release on Diwali.
