The Indie pop singer, 26, from Melbourne, shared an update on Instagram after unexpectedly stepping back from social media.Recovering in London, she revealed that the rare heart condition infective endocarditis had suddenly and frighteningly affected her health, causing distressing repercussions.
Gretta, who gained recognition after winning Triple J Unearthed in 2016, shared that she felt fortunate doctors identified the disease early when she first noticed symptoms. She mentioned being transferred to a renowned hospital specializing in treating infective endocarditis, highlighting the seriousness of her condition.Gretta Ray announced she has canceled all her scheduled shows for the rest of the year to focus on her recovery. After completing a lengthy course of intravenous antibiotics, she was discharged from the hospital two weeks ago. However, she mentioned that surgery might still be necessary in the future to address her condition.
‘Due to the fact that I am stable, the doctors have encouraged me to spend time regaining some strength and immunity outside of hospital,’ she wrote. ‘While I’m still dealing with some complications, it’s already been healing being back out in the world,’ she continued. ‘I know I will be telling this story in more detail when the time is right but for now I’m processing the trauma and taking things slowly.’
Gretta Ray expressed her gratitude to her fans for their “kind and thoughtful messages.” She also maintained a sense of humor about her situation, lightening the mood despite the challenging circumstances. She noted the irony of her condition, referencing her breakout song “Heartbreak Baby,” and joking that she now has “a physically broken heart.”

This rare disease can severely damage or destroy heart valves if not treated promptly.
