Saari raat doston ke saath phirti. Kaash main bhi ladka hoti. Kehte suna hai sabko ki ladki ko padhao, likhao, sashakt banao. Aur jab padh likhkar doctor banti, Meri maa na khoti uski aankhon ka moto. Kaash main bhi ladka hoti.”
The poem roughly translates to, “I wish I were a boy too, I would sleep without locking the door. I wish I were a boy too, I would run wild and carefree. I would roam all night with my friends. I wish I were a boy too.
I’ve heard everyone say, educate girls, make them strong. But when my mother became a doctor, She didn’t lose the motto in her eyes. I wish I were a boy too.”
