Bombay High Court gives relief to Shilpa Shetty-Raj Kundra, orders a stay on ED's eviction order

Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty received an order from ED on September 27, to vacate their properties in Juhu and Pawna Lake by October 13. Reports suggest that the Mumbai Zonal Office attached assets worth Rs 97.79 crore belonging to Raj, under the Prevention Of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. With regards to this order of eviction from the ED, Shilpa and Raj had gone to the Bombay High Court.
The court has now granted relief to Shilpa and Raj and put a stay on ED’s order. The couple had earlier challenged their eviction notice in court related to a money laundering case. As the court has put a stay on the eviction order, Shilpa and Raj’s advocate, Prashant Patil, said in a statement, “At the outset, let us first clarify the fake media reports suggesting that Mr Raj Kundra and his wife, Mrs Shilpa Shetty Kundra, are involved in the cryptocurrency Ponzi scam. This is not even the case of the Enforcement Directorate. It is clarified that Mr Kundra and Mrs. Shetty have no connection to the alleged Ponzi scam, which dates back to 2017.”
This statement also denied Shilpa and Raj’s involvement in the Ponzi scheme. The ED had launched an investigation after FIR was filed by Maharashtra and Delhi Police, against M/s Variable Tech Pte Ltd and other individuals. This included Amit Bhardwaj as well. They were accused of raising around Rs. 6,600 crore through a Bitcoin scheme that falsely promised investors a 10 percent monthly return back in 2017. As per ED, Raj Kundra was also involved in it and got 285 bitcoins from Bhardwaj to establish a Bitcoin mining farm in Ukraine.
Shilpa and Raj’s advocate further mentioned in the statement, “An eviction notice was issued by the ED against my clients’, residential properties, which has been stayed by the Honourable High Court, granting Mr Raj Kundra and Mrs. Shilpa Shetty time to file an appeal before the Honourable Appellate Tribunal in Delhi for further relief. It is the duty of my clients to continue cooperating with the Enforcement Directorate’s investigation.”
