Actor Byeon Woo Seok’s security team has found itself in hot water after a recent incident at an airport lounge sparked controversy over what some are calling ‘over-protection’ of the star. The incident came to light when Byeon Woo Seok was spotted by a traveler who happened to be at the lounge with their parents, enjoying a vacation.
According to them, a member of Byeon Woo Seok’s security detail allegedly shone a flashlight at the traveler, seemingly mistaking them for a fan trying to approach the actor. This action drew swift criticism from netizens and bystanders present at the lounge, many of whom were ordinary travelers and families with children. The incident raised concerns about the extent of celebrity security measures in public spaces, particularly when there are no apparent threats or fans present.
In response to the backlash, the CEO of Byeon Woo Seok’s security team issued a formal apology through News1, acknowledging the lapse in judgment by their staff member. According to Koreaboo, “It was the fault of the security guard for having shone the flashlight. We wished to deeply apologise for making civilians uncomfortable”, the CEO stated. Promising corrective action, they emphasized plans to enhance internal training to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“It is true that there was no need for over-protection in that situation. We normally do not operate this way as well”, the CEO affirmed. They further explained that heightened attention due to Byun Woo Seok‘s sudden rise in popularity may have contributed to the guard’s overzealous response, but reiterated their commitment to ensuring that such actions do not compromise public comfort or safety.
“We have been in the business for more than a few years now, and we are not ones to disregard interactions with fans, or make civilians uncomfortable, or cause displeasure with careless control”, the CEO continued. “We will conduct thorough education internally as this matter has happened without us meaning for it to”.
