Chloe Coleman on working with Dave Bautista on 'My Spy The Eternal City': He has great paternal instinct and is so loving and generous - EXCLUSIVE | Filmymeet

Chloe Coleman, the talented young actress who has captured hearts with her performances in Hollywood blockbusters ranging from ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ to ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’, is back on the big screen, reprising her role as Sophie in the action-comedy sequel ‘My Spy The Eternal City‘. Ahead of the film’s release, Chloe, in an exclusive interview with ETimes, opens up about reuniting with her co-star Dave Bautista, and their dynamic chemistry.
The actress, who has been in the industry for nearly a decade, also shared her excitement of channelling her inner femme fatale for this action-packed instalment and discussed how her experience as a child star has given her a head start in her movie star career.
Having starred in several top-tier Hollywood productions, alongside industry giants like Sam Worthington, Chris Pine, Jennifer Lopez, and Lena Headey, Chloe shares who she is most excited to work with in a potential sequel and also gives us a glimpse into her future plans and aspirations in the film industry. Excerpts:
‘My Spy The Eternal City’ was every bit as entertaining as it was emotional. Tell us what was the best part about reprising your role in this sequel?
Chloe Coleman: I loved the new take on JJ’s and Sophie’s relationship and how it’s completely evolved into something new. I think it’s really relatable, the dynamic of how Sophie is yearning for this independence and freedom, and JJ is holding on to her because of how much he loves her and really takes on that fatherly role. That was exciting to get into and explore, though somewhat difficult at first. It was just so enjoyable, and the action is just so fun in this movie. I had a great time doing all those stunts.
Speaking of the action, which actress or character did you try to channel through this role? Do you have any favourite on-screen action heroines?
Chloe: If you’ve seen the original ‘Alien 1’ and ‘Alien 2’, the lead female actress (Sigourney Weaver) is so badass and awesome. I remember watching interviews for that movie and how it was one of the first awesome female action stars. That’s someone who I thought of, and also just my character Sophie. I think I channel her curiosity and her drive. She just never really gives up.

Chloe, we’ve seen Dave Bautista in a lot of fatherly roles, what is it about him that makes him the perfect on-screen dad?
Chloe: I think it’s just that he has great paternal instinct and he’s so loving, caring, thoughtful and generous to the people around him. He’s so accepting and non-judgmental and someone I can always talk to. I really do love him and I’m so grateful to have him in my life.
You have been in the film industry since you were five years old. How has starting your career at such a young age given you an advantage in Hollywood? Also, is there a Hollywood child actor whose career trajectory has impressed you the most?
Chloe: I’m really happy I started when I was younger because I’ve had a lot of time to grow and understand acting, and I’m so grateful for all the experiences I’ve had.
I think someone who’s really impressive is Walker Scobell, who’s just been in the recent series ‘Percy Jackson’. He’s awesome, and I think he’s so cool and talented. I’d love to meet him and work with him.
You’ve worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Sam Worthington, Chris Pine, Jennifer Lopez, and Lena Headey. If you could reunite with any of these co-stars for a sequel, who would you choose and why?
Chloe: You know what, I’m in New York right now and I’ve been thinking about how fun it was filming ‘Marry Me’. I would love to work with JLo (Jennifer Lopez) and Owen Wilson again. I loved JLo, she made filming feel so fun and safe. She was such a mama bear. I had a great time working on that movie and would love to make another one of those.
If you could explore a different film genre in the future, which one would you choose?
Chloe: I’d love to work on a good drama and action film in the future. I really enjoy doing my own stunts, so anything in that world or a really deep, challenging role, would be amazing.
‘My Spy The Eternal City’ sees veteran CIA operative JJ (Bautista) and his 14-year-old step-daughter and protégé, Sophie (Coleman), teaming up once more to save the world. This sequel to the 2020 hit ‘My Spy’ revolves around Sophie’s high school choir tour in Italy, which gets disrupted by a nefarious nuclear plot targeting the Vatican.
The Prime Video film, which premieres today, July 19, features familiar faces like Ken Jeong and Kristen Schaal, alongside newcomers Anna Faris, Craig Robinson, and Flula Borg.
