One of the standout moments contributing to the film’s success is its viral opening credits scene, which has captured audiences worldwide. The scene features ‘Deadpool’, played by Ryan Reynolds, performing a dance routine to NSYNC’s classic hit ‘Bye Bye Bye’. This unexpected and entertaining sequence quickly became an internet sensation, with fans calling the character ‘Dancepool‘.While many viewers initially believed it was Ryan Reynolds himself executing the act, it was later revealed that the choreography was performed by Nick Pauley. Pauley took to Instagram to share his involvement in the film, expressing his excitement and gratitude for being part of such a memorable moment. During a conversation with Ashley and Company, Ryan Reynolds clarified the situation, humorously mentioning Pauley’s contribution. “He’s doing a lot of the moves that have been established previously by NSYNC,” Reynolds explained. “If it looks like the person who’s dancing doesn’t have arthritis, that’s him.” He added with a laugh, “There are moments where, you know, there’s a bit of a pop and lock. The pop really pops, like it cracks. And the lock will not unlock.” Appreciating Pauley, he added, “I will hang on to Nick Pauley’s talent. I will hang my hat on his talent there and thank him for his contribution and services.”
Nick Pauley, who is credited as ‘Dancepool’ in the film’s end credits, is a dancer-choreographer and content creator. He has an impressive resume, having appeared in music videos for artists like Katy Perry and Doja Cat, and featured in the 2020 film ‘Prom’. Following the film’s release, Pauley took to Instagram to share his excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to perform as ‘Dancepool’, “It’s true! I am Dancepool in the new “Deadpool and Wolverine”. This secret has been so hard to keep! I can’t believe I have the honour of being@vancityreynolds “dance” double for the opening scene of the entire movie!!! Like what?!? What is life?”
In addition to the photo, Pauley shared a behind-the-scenes video on his Instagram story, showing the viral choreography.
He discussed the challenges of performing in the Deadpool suit, noting, “Seeing this clip makes me laugh because I can tell by the way I am dancing that I’m exhausted.” He explained it was difficult to hit the right moves while wearing the suit because of various technical issues with it. He continued, “Every few takes we’d have to take a break cuz the costume would get really hot, oxygen intake was low, and my feet would start feeling like cement. I can tell by my little jumps that I was ready to call ‘cut’.”
