Major Spoilers ahead!
Deadpool & Wolverine is the first movie in the X-Men series to be a part of the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the makers have ensured that the post-credit scene makes up for it.
Rather than providing a standard mid-credits scene, Deadpool & Wolverine chooses to show a montage of deleted scenes from previous Marvel films. In between pictures of Chris Evans’s Human Torch and Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, there are interviews with Jackman discussing his early days of making the original X-Men film. Additionally, there is a video where Reynolds talks about how much he loves Deadpool while filming Blade: Trinity. A diverse range of non-MCU Marvel films, both before and after Marvel Studios’ massive franchise debuted, are featured in the montage. Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)” plays in
the background.
When the heroes initially awaken in the Void earlier in the movie, they encounter Johnny Storm, also known as the Human Torch, from Fox’s Fantastic Four films from the 2000s. But when Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) confronts the three, Deadpool tells her a list of insults Johnny allegedly said about her behind her back. Cassandra then angrily tears off the skin from his body, and Johnny collapses into a pile of bones and organs, dead. It is hinted to the audience that Wade made up all of those remarks, and Wolverine blames Deadpool for Johnny’s death. But in the Deadpool & Wolverine post-credits scene, Deadpool is in the TVA and he rolls footage showing Johnny Storm insulting Cassandra Nova while driving to her headquarters using their monitors.
While the moment is supposed to show that Deadpool didn’t actually get Johnny killed, Deadpool repeating Johnny Storm’s words to Cassandra Nova ultimately led to Johnny Storm’s death. Given that neither he nor Wolverine actually benefited from it in terms of escaping the antagonist, there was no real motive for him to do it.
The Human Torch that died in Deadpool & Wolverine may not have been the same as the one that appeared in Fox’s Fantastic Four films. He could be a version from a separate reality because of the differences in his outfit and the Fantastic Four emblem. The MCU has proven that in addition to many actors portraying different iterations of the same character, the same actor can play multiple variations. That being said, even when the MCU presents its new Fantastic Four, Evans may still play another iteration of Johnny Storm in the future.
