Filmmaker Nag Ashwin‘s ‘Kalki 2898 AD‘ has set the box office ablaze with its lightning run in theaters. Within seven days, this sci-fi epic has grossed around Rs 700 crore worldwide, surpassing the lifetime earnings of several blockbuster movies.
According to the latest report by ETV Bharat, the filmmaker has stated that he won’t use promotional tricks, such as reserving a seat for Ashwatthama (played by Amitabh Bachchan) in theaters, to draw attention to his film.
Reportedly, the filmmaker is confident that the content of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ will speak for itself. “I won’t ask theater owners to leave one seat for Ashwatthama for promotions; my content will speak for itself,” Ashwin asserted, emphasizing his faith in the narrative’s ability to captivate viewers.
However, the netizens think Nag Ashwin has taken a dig at the makers of ‘Adipurush’. For those unaware, when Adipurush was released, makers urged theaters to leave one seat vacant for Hanuman. However, the promotional tactics didn’t work for the film, and it underperformed at the box office.
Reacting to Nag Ashwin’s statement, one user on Reddit wrote, “Lol, that promotion strategy still didn’t help ‘Adipurush’ from tanking. Good for Nag Aswin for having faith in his work; they didn’t even need lots of promotion as he was confident he made a good film.”
Another wrote, “Man Om Raut really messed with a golden opportunity. He could have made a film of a lifetime with that budget.”
Meanwhile, Nag Ashwin recently lauded Prabhas, hailing him as the biggest box-office star of the era. Taking to his Instagram handle, Nag Ashwin shared a behind-the-scenes photo of Prabhas and expressed his admiration for the actor’s contribution to the film’s success.
He wrote, “This man sitting casually there is the reason for all this; unbiasedly, he is the biggest box office star of this era.” He further elaborated, “He gave our production the confidence to do what we did; he gave me the freedom to do what I did, and his numerous intelligent inputs helped guide the film to what it is. Everyone’s darling, our Bhairava, and now the world’s K.”
Nag Ashwin’s ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ also stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan in lead roles.
