Tabu is known for her ace performances and movies like ‘The Namesake’, ‘Maqbool‘, ‘Chandni Bar’, ‘Astitva’ and the list being quite long in a career which has spanned over three decades now. The actress continues to keep pushing the envelope. Though, in an interview, Vishal Bhardwaj said that the most irritating quality about Tabu is that she doesn’t like herself when she sees herself on-screen.He had said that she didn’t like herself even when she saw ‘Haider‘. The film saw Tabu along with Shahid Kapoor, Irrfan, Shraddha Kapoor. During an in-depth chat with ETimes, we asked Tabu if this is true.
When asked if she didn’t like herself in ‘Haider’, Tabu laughed and said, “On the edit table I saw some parts. Sometimes you feel that it could have been better. I keep doing ‘kitkit’ about something so now Vishal Bhardwaj doesn’t show me anything. He is used to it. I keep finding flaws and giving him suggestions but now he’s used to it. Now we’ve also come to a place where I’ll say anything and we won’t listen to me. But I’m also stuborn when I go on the sets and be like, ‘Aisa hi karenge’.”
Tabu and Vishal share the most lovely actor-director bonding. Tabu and Bhardwaj have collaborated for many projects like ‘Maqbool’, ‘Haider’ and more recently ‘Khufiya’. The actress also spoke about being her biggest critic and her hunger to keep getting better at her craft.
“I’m not just my critic. I can see where I have done satisfactorily well according to my standards. I can see why people have liked what they have liked. But I’m sure a lot of creative people go through that ‘If I would have approached X film now, I would have done differently’. But I’ve started ignoring those thoughts because it’s going to happen every single day. Of course, I’m on a film, I always try to find ways to do it in different ways than what would be expected. I always look to collaborate with my director in a way that he allows me that interpretation. Most of my directors have completely given me the freedom to do it my way. That’s the hunger which never seizes, whatever the project it is. That’s because I want to keep doing it in unpredictable ways,” says Tabu.
The actress will be seen next in ‘Auron Mein Kya Dum Tha‘ along with Ajay Devgn.
