Taimur and Jehangir’s lineage gets even more fascinating when you look at their grandmother, Sharmila Tagore. Before marrying cricket legend and Nawab of Pataudi, Mansoor Ali Khan, Sharmila converted to Islam and became Ayesha Sultana Khan. Born in Hyderabad, she’s the daughter of Gitindranath Tagore, a general manager in the British India Corporation, and his wife Ira—both of whom were related to the illustrious Rabindranath Tagore. This royal lineage and literary connection certainly make Taimur and Jehangir’s heritage something to marvel at!

According to the Free Press Journal, Sharmila Tagore’s father, Gitindranath, was the grandson of the famous Bengali painter Gaganendranath Tagore. Gaganendranath’s father was Rabindranath Tagore’s cousin, making Sharmila’s great-great-grandfather Rabindranath’s cousin. On the maternal side, Sharmila’s mother, Ira, was the granddaughter of Rabindranath Tagore’s brother, Dwijendranath. This intricate family tree reveals that Taimur and Jehangir are the great-great-grandsons of Rabindranath Tagore’s brother, Dwijendranath.

In a past interview, Sharmila mentioned that she was born three years after Rabindranath Tagore’s demise. Despite this, she feels privileged to be part of such a distinguished family, with her surname being a significant part of her heritage. Additionally, Saif Ali Khan once shared with IANS the connection between his son, Taimur Ali Khan, and their family’s royal lineage, further highlighting their illustrious ancestry.
