Dil Chahta Hai‘ is continued to be remembered as a cult over the years as it started a new wave of cinema in Bollywood. Directed by Farhan Akhtar, the movie starred Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye khanna, Dimple Kapadia, Preity Zinta, Sonali Kulkarni. In the movie, Akshaye’s character is shown falling in love with a woman who is older than him and Dimple played that character. But did you know that Dimple had initially refused to do the movie? She did it because Akshay convinced her.
The actress said in a recent interview with Vogue that she finds excused to not do a film sometimes and she had said no to Dil Chahta Hai initially. “Akshaye Khanna called me up. He was such a sweetheart. He said, ‘Please, please, do it for me.’ And yeah, I said, of course. And thank god I did it because working with Zoya (Akhtar) and working with that team was completely… I think by this time, it was a different kind of generation I was working with. So it was very, very rewarding. And it helped me a lot there,” she said further.
Dimple has been a part of some of the most off-beat projects in recent times. Be it ‘Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo’ or ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ and ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’. The actress was recently seen at the screening of her film ‘Go Noni Go’ at the Mami Film Festival. It is based on Twinkle Khanna’s short stories and sees Dimple in the lead.
