Esha’s bikini look in Dhoom became a huge talking point at the time, and she famously mentioned that she sought her mother Hema Malini’s permission before agreeing to the scene. When asked if she also needed her father, veteran actor Dharmendra’s approval, Esha explained that getting her mother’s consent was enough. She told Bollywood Hungama, “No. Getting permission from my mom was as good as getting permission from my father.”
Esha had previously shared with Bollywood Bubble that when producer Aditya Chopra told her she would have to wear a bikini in the film, she was initially nervous about asking her mother. However, Hema Malini’s response was supportive and practical, telling Esha, “You wear it when you go out with your friends and on holidays, so wear it. Just make sure it is shot nicely.”

Regarding how she landed the role, Esha recalled that there was no formal audition, but rather a look test. “It was more of a look test, but I was given time to get into that kind of a mould. I worked out a lot,” she said. By the time Dhoom released, Esha had already appeared in films like Kucch To Hai, Kyaa Dil Ne Kahaa, and Naa Tum Jaano Na Hum, but Dhoom became the biggest hit of her career at that point.
While Dhoom evolved into a successful franchise, Esha did not return for any of the subsequent films. When asked how she felt about not being approached for the future installments, she noted that the franchise never repeated its negative characters. “Even John didn’t get repeated,” she remarked, referring to John Abraham’s role as the antagonist in the first film. She added, “So, there’s always that door open.”
The last installment of the franchise, Dhoom 3, was released 11 years ago, and while there has been ongoing speculation about Dhoom 4, YRF has yet to make any official announcement. When asked if she would be interested in returning to the franchise, Esha responded positively.
Esha Deol was last seen in the web series Hunter: Tootega Nahi Todega alongside Suniel Shetty.
