In an exclusive interview with ETimes, the actor reveals the reason behind delaying the release in Hindi markets. He said , “Our distributors felt we should come two weeks later, even Rishab Shetty’s Kantara came two weeks after its release to Hindi Markets.”
“Thangalaan is a different kind of film and it might not have a regular kind of response or opening from the audience , so it’s better to plan its release,” he added.
Explaining how the the release pattern has changed over the years he states, “So initially, it only used to be Tamil release. But now, you have to think about other languages too. In Telugu states, they have this festival, so one has to push it by ten days, then in Malayalam you can’t have a joint release because people are fasting at this time .. so you have to take a lot of criteria into account. With Hindi, we thought its better to come later, than come with 3 big films”
Vikram also opened up about if he felt that regional languages cinemas are overlapping each other and fighting for space. He said, “We are one country with so many cross cultures, we are a potpourri of so many tastes and flavors, and this is the best way to enjoy India. I don’t think we are barging into anyone’s territory, also post pandemic and thank to OTT, all films are being appreciated . When I go to Andhra Pradesh, I’m asked when are you doing a straight Telugu film, or in Kerala I’m asked about doing a Malayalam film .. I tell them it doesn’t matter anymore , just like love has no language, cinema also has no language.”
