Farhan Akhtar is one of the most successful filmmakers and actors in the Indian film industry today. However, he has faced his shares of ups and downs. The star recently opened up about a challenging period in his life when he felt ‘aimless‘ and felt that he had let his mother down.
In an interview with Faye D’Souza, Farhan opened up about his personal struggles recalling the time when he was “aimless” and also used to consume alcohol. He stated that though he knew he wanted to ‘entertain’ people, he was clueless about what to do or how to go about it.
Akhtar confessed that he wasn’t sharp academically, and made the ‘mistake’ of getting into a bachelor program for Commerce, which he had no interest in. Within a year, he realized it wasn’t for him and gradually stopped attending classes. He recalled how his mother was worried, and stressed out all the time.
The actor also spoke about his mother’s struggles as a single parent who was raising both him and his sister Zoya Akhtar while also working. He described how his mother, already juggling her responsibilities, became increasingly worried about his lack of direction and the unhealthy habits he had developed, including drinking.
The turning point came when his mother suggested that he move in with his father, Javed Akhtar.
