The long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott’s Oscar-winning ‘Gladiator’ has finally entered the global box office arena, making a strong start in India and international markets. ‘Gladiator II’, featuring Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, and Connie Nielsen in lead roles, was released in theatres on November 15, 2024, marking its grand debut in around 63 international markets, except China and US, where it releases on November 22.
On its opening day in India, the film earned an estimated Rs 1.5 crore across all languages, with an overall 55% occupancy rate for its English screenings, according to Sacnilk.com. The movie that received rave critic and audience reviews, enjoyed a wide release in India in multiple languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, with a reported 3,169 shows across the country. While morning shows in certain regions recorded a 0% occupancy, numbers improved significantly by the end of the day.
At the global box office, ‘Gladiator II’ is projected to rake in between $80 million and $90 million during its opening weekend. Taking into account, the film’s good reception and great reviews, trade experts state the film has potential for even greater box office success.
