In the 1990s, Govinda was known for being late to film sets, as many colleagues have pointed out. However, not many have talked about how quickly he worked once he got there. Despite his lateness, he was very efficient on set, showing his dedication to his craft.
In a recent interview, actor Abhishek Bannerjee recounted a story from director David Dhawan about Govinda. He noted that Govinda was “genius enough” to complete 12 hours of work in just two hours. Abhishek also mentioned a memorable time when David and Govinda were filming in Paris.
In a conversation with The Lallantop, Abhishek shared, “Once David sir told me, they were shooting something in Paris near Eiffel Tower. They had to shoot a segment there, It was perhaps Hero No 1. They didn’t the permission to shoot there and they didn’t have much time. Govinda just told him that ‘you switch on the camera’. And whatever they had to shoot, the steps of the song, he did it with the group in just 15-20 minutes. And they were done. They just got out of there after that.” Karisma Kapoor was also a part of the dance number with Govinda.
Abhishek further said, “You can’t do that today. I don’t know anyone who can do that. I don’t know if anyone is professional enough to do that that. This is a kind of professionalism too that you know that you just have limited time and you have to get the job done.”
‘Hero No. 1‘ was released in 1997, starring Govinda and directed by David Dhawan. The film follows the story of a charming young man, played by Govinda, who tries to win over the heart of a wealthy girl while navigating family drama.
