Gulshan Devaiah has shared his thoughts on Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the gold medal match at the Paris Olympics 2024. The actor expressed his mixed feelings about the situation, hoping for a positive outcome for Vinesh while also acknowledging the fairness concerns for other athletes.
On Wednesday, Vinesh was disqualified from the 50kg gold medal match due to being 100 grams overweight. This decision led to a wave of support from celebrities who praised Vinesh for her dedication and hard work.
Gulshan also voiced his perspective in a tweet, “Emotionally I hope an appeal is accepted & Vinesh is awarded the Silver but I also feel it’s unfair on every other athlete who’s been disqualified earlier under the same circumstances. I’m deciding to accept it and move on but it’s not really about how I feel. This must be unimaginable devastating on Vinesh & her team. As a fellow Indian, I say thank you champ!!! Be Well VandeMataram.”

Following the disqualification, Vinesh posted a heartfelt message on her official Twitter account, announcing her retirement. She expressed her sense of defeat and broken courage, writing, “Ma Kusti (Mother, wrestling) won against me, I lost. Forgive me, your dream and my courage has been broken. I don’t have any more strength now. Goodbye Wrestling 2001-2024.”
Despite this, Vinesh has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to be recognized as a joint silver medallist. The final decision is expected to be announced on August 9.
