Before becoming a star with Rangeela, Urmila Matondkar was a child actor for several years and had appeared in a few films as an adult. However, it was only after starring in Ram Gopal Varma‘s Rangeela that she became a household name. In a recent interview with Bollywood Now, a hair stylist named Nanda, who worked with Urmila during the shoot of Rangeela, shared her experience and recalled an emotional incident.
Nanda, who assisted another hair stylist named Maria at the time, was tasked with working on Urmila’s hair for a photoshoot at Borivali National Park. Nanda explained, “Urmila asked, ‘Where is Maria?’ I told her, ‘Didi had to go for a shoot urgently.’ She then asked, ‘Is this not a shoot? Isn’t this work too?’ I replied, ‘I don’t know anything. Didi sent me.'”
As Nanda began working on Urmila’s hair, the actor continuously pointed out her mistakes, making Nanda so anxious that she eventually started crying. “She would constantly criticize my work because she preferred working with Maria. She was okay with me assisting but didn’t like me working independently on her hair. I stood there with tears rolling down my eyes but never cried in front of her. She only wanted Maria. We were never comfortable with her,” Nanda recounted.

Throughout her career, Nanda has worked with many actors but found Urmila to be the most challenging. “I’ve worked with numerous people, but this was the only experience that genuinely scared me,” she said.
Urmila has not appeared in movies since her role in 2018’s Blackmail. Recently, she was seen judging a television reality show called DID Super Moms.
