Director Anubhav Sinha recently recalled working with the late Rishi Kapoor on the 2018 movie ‘Mulk.’
In an interview with Mashable India, the director recalled how Rishi Kapoor, nicknamed as “Punjabi bully,” would make him read outlines.
Rishi Kapoor, who was playing the role of a Punjabi hailing from Benaras, insisted on having Anubhav Sinha read scenes on the set. Anubhav Sinha described Rishi Kapoor’s habit of asking questions about lines, saying, “He would randomly come to me and be like, ‘What have you written here? I don’t understand. How do I say this line?’” Anubhav Sinha recalled being stunned by Rishi Kapoor’s requests, although he later realized it was a playful form of bullying. He said, “Later, I realized, he was bullying me by making me narrate scenes and lines. He was a Punjabi bully.”
Despite these interactions, Anubhav Sinha showed respect for Rishi Kapoor’s attitude. He said that Rishi Kapoor, who became an overnight sensation at the age of 12 with his father Raj Kapoor’s film ‘Mera Naam Joker,’ showed a humble attitude. Anubhav Sinha added that Rishi Kapoor initially addressed him formally, which he tried to discourage. Eventually, they agreed on the title ‘Sinha sahab.’
‘Mulk’ is a legal drama around a family’s struggle to prove its integrity after one of its family members is accused of terrorism. Taapsee Pannu, Rajat Kapoor, and Manoj Pahwa star in it.
Meanwhile, Anubhav Sinha’s latest directorial venture is ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ which received mediocre reviews from the viewers.
