In a conversation with the YouTube channel We Are Yuvaa, Imran explained, “In DDLJ, especially in the second half, Raj takes on roles traditionally associated with women.
He helps with the wedding preparations, brings sweets, decorates, and, even during the climax, he doesn’t resort to physical conflict.”
In the film, Raj travels to Simran’s (played by Kajol) home to win over her family while she is engaged to another man. To gain their favor, Raj assists around the house, impressing Simran’s mother and aunt. His character contrasts sharply with Simran’s fiancé, Kuljeet, who is depicted as the alpha male and a red flag due to his intention to cheat. Imran added, “Raj’s decision to win over the entire family rather than running away with the girl was refreshing, moving, and exciting when I first saw the film.”
Imran Khan finally breaks silence on why he quit acting; says ‘wasn’t excited by it enough…’
In the same interview, Imran spoke about his divorce and battle with depression. He shared why he never discussed his mental health issues with his uncle Aamir Khan, and revealed that his mother played a key role in supporting him through his tough times.
Imran explained that despite his close bond with uncle Aamir, he never felt comfortable discussing his struggles with him. “For the closeness and the consideration that I have for Aamir, he’s a very busy guy. So, we would meet infrequently, he would be eyeball-deep in three films. So, the conversations wouldn’t quite have the chance to get there. Life is such. It was ultimately my mom who was able to help me,” he said.
The actor mentioned that he grew up in a household with Aamir and his other uncle, Mansoor, both of whom were very influential figures in his life. Reflecting on his youth, he noted that he learned a lot about masculinity from them. Imran spoke highly of Aamir’s tenacity, describing him as having a strong sense of conviction and fearlessness. He explained that when Aamir believes in something, he stands firm and does not back down, a quality Imran has always admired and tried to emulate.
Imran also discussed Aamir’s workaholic nature, sharing that working closely with him has been astounding. He observed that while others would become exhausted, Aamir would continue working tirelessly. Imran recounted experiences of working double shifts with Aamir, where despite the grueling schedule, Aamir seemed unfazed and ready to continue working. This relentless drive, Imran admitted, is both impressive and somewhat intimidating.
Imran Khan, who has been out of the public eye for some time, is planning a return to the spotlight. His last film was Nikkhil Advani’s Katti Batti in 2015.
