There’s just no stopping ‘Inside Out 2‘ at the box office. The animated film that is already the highest-grossing film on 2024, has surpassed the $1 billion mark at the international box office, becoming the first animated film ever to reach this milestone.
The Pixar sequel is now one of just 12 films to have grossed over $1 billion from overseas markets alone. It also recently surpassed ‘Frozen II‘ to become the highest-grossing animated film in history.
While a total of 55 films have grossed $1 billion globally, only a dozen have managed to hit this benchmark solely through international markets. Among these are the 2019 remake of ‘The Lion King’ which earned a notable $1.1 billion internationally, but the studio has classified it as live-action rather than animated. This makes ‘Inside Out 2’ the first fully animated film to join this exclusive club. The film’s success is particularly evident in key foreign markets, with Mexico leading the way at $102.2 million, followed by Brazil with $80 million, the U.K. with $72.7 million, France with $62.6 million, and Korea with $60.8 million.
Globally, ‘Inside Out 2’ has amassed $1.649 billion worldwide, including $1.002 billion from international markets and $646.3 million domestically.
Disney is enjoying a strong summer at the box office, with two billion-dollar releases. In addition to ‘Inside Out 2’, the Marvel superhero sequel ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ has also performed well, although its $634.1 million international haul is less than half that of the Pixar hit. The R-rated film has reached $1.21 billion worldwide, making it the eighth-highest-grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It is expected to soon overtake ‘Iron Man 3’, which earned $1.215 billion.
