Shahid Kapoor made a dynamic entry into movies about 20 years ago, with a young romantic flick Ishq Vishq directed by Ken Ghosh. Now, producer Ramesh Taurani has come up with a ‘spiritual sequel’ of the film, which is being led by internet sensation Rohit Saraf, Hrithik Roshan’s cousin Pashmina Roshan and child actor turn lead actor Jibraan Khan. To cash on the nostalgia, the makers brought back some of the famous songs from the original film and they became instant chartbusters.
The film began its journey on a low number of Rs1 crore on Friday, but as the weekend progressed , so did the collection of the film.On Saturday, the film saw a 20 % jump to earn Rs 1.20 crore, and on Sunday it jumped even higher to collect Rs 1.40 crore, taking the weekend total of the film to Rs 3.60 crore.
The two major circuits responsible for jump in the collection are Mumbai and Delhi, which had an overall occupancy of nearly 20 % and 14 % respectively.
The journey ahead for the film looks a bit difficult, as despite a young cast and good music, the reviews of the film aren’t very glowing and the box office numbers are also below par. Monday is going to be a major test for the film; if it fails to get a steady number, it will be difficult to get screens in the coming week with the release of Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD which stars Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas and Deepika Padukone. Also Ishq Vishq Rebound is currently competing with horror comedy Munjya and Chandu Champion, both of whom have shown great resilience over the weekend.
