When asked who introduced her to her first bra, father or mother, Janhvi said, “No, that mama did. That’s taken care of from there. She was in denial that her girls were growing up for a very long time. She’s just a kid. She doesn’t need these things. So, yeah. I was like, I think I need it mom. Like, I really think I do.”
In the same interview, Janhvi talked about the supportive role her father, producer Boney Kapoor, played for her mother. She disclosed that Sridevi gave up her career after she was born, but Boney encouraged her to return to work when their children grew older.
How Janhvi Kapoor’s Encounter with the Paparazzi Brightened Her Day!
“She gave up her career when she had me. She didn’t want to work on her own. Because she thought that I worked for so many years. In fact, Papa was the one who was like, the kids have grown up now. And you get so much happiness from work. I will take care of them. I will stay with them during school. I will schedule a summer vacation. If you want to do this film, please do it. We will all come. So he was very encouraging. It was never like, don’t eat before I eat. It was never like, what have you worn? But mom was very conservative. And so Papa had to pretend to be,” Janhvi said.
She also recalled how her father used to empower Sridevi and her, “He would always say things like, you are feeling good. You are feeling confident. Then wear what you want. I have always come from that upbringing and that lens. Where he was like, work if you want to. Wear what you want. Speak what you want. Don’t worry so much about me. Make your friends. Go on a trip. He was very empowering like that. That’s what I have taken. That’s why sometimes when I was put in professional situations, I had to kind of recalibrate. Everyone is not like my Papa.”
