Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan got together as they launched their documentary series which is set to premiere on August 20. It will have three episodes. The trailer launch event was also attended by Salim-Javed’s children – Salman Khan, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan. One also saw Salman’s sisters Alvira Agnihotri and Arpita Khan at the event.
During this launch, Javed Akhtar recalled some early memories of going to Salim Khan’s house.Akhtar said, “When I met Salman for the first time, he was 1 year old. Yeh joh abhi handsome lag rahe hai, aisa nahi ke abhi huye. Yeh pehle se the. (He looks handsome now, but he was also very an exceptionally good looking child.) Ek black and white tasveer living room mein hua karti thi inki, ab pataa nahi hai ya nahi. Baaki bacche toh mere saamne paida huye. Accha kamaal kya hai? Today Salman, he’s a he-man, dashing hero. Yeh ek bohot shy, kam bolne wala, chupchaap rehne wala baccha tha. (There used to be a black and white photo of Salman in their living room, I wonder if it’s there still. But today Salman is this he-man, action hero, however, as a child, he used to be very shy and quiet). Badmaash baccha toh wahan baitha hua hai (pointing out at Arbaaz Khan).”
Talking about Arbaaz, Javed Akhtar added, “He was a regular seducer.” Arbaaz interuppted and laughed, “He means charmer.” Akhtar continued, “Salim Sahab ke ghar ein joh bhi aata tha. Tumhein pataa nahi tumne kya kya kiya 6 baras ki umar mein. Joh bhi Salim Khan ka dost hota tha, un sab se yeh ek special relationship banaa leta tha. Bechara Salman chup baitha rehta tha. (Arbaaz used to charm everyone, talk so much and make a special bonding with all the friends of Salim Sahab, while Salman was always very quiet).”
Javed Akhtar also recalled, “Bachpan mein yeh Arbaaz ke baal kabhi bikharne nahi deta tha. 6 saal ka baccha always kangi karta tha, aisa kabhi dekha nahi tha. Self-love inka kamaal ka tha. (Even during childhood, at the age of 6, Arbaaz was so particular about his hair that one strand also wouldn’t be haywire. He would always comb his hair and keep it perfect. He had another level of self love even as a child.”
The documentary series on Salim-Javed is called ‘Angry Young Men‘ and features many celebs talking about the duo – right from their children, Shabana Azmi, Hrithik Roshan, Amitabh Bachchan.
