“Last time I was here was in 1992,” Jimmy shared with a hint of nostalgia, “I spent 15 years of my early life in Gorakhpur. It feels surreal to see how much the city has transformed since then.”
As he navigated through the bustling streets, memories flooded back—of narrow lanes, school days spent with cousins in a single car, and the occasional car getting stuck in potholes. “Now there’s an expressway where we used to struggle with potholes,” he chuckled, marveling at the development.

Jimmy’s connection to Uttar Pradesh runs deep, not just from his childhood but also through his cinematic journey. “Filmmakers have been obsessed with UP, especially crime shows,” he commented thoughtfully. “But I believe it’s time to explore new narratives beyond the typical crime genre. UP has so much more to offer—its culture, its diversity.”
Discussing the potential for film studios in UP, Jimmy’s eyes lit up with optimism. “If there are low-cost studios and new locations, filmmakers will surely come. It’s about creating the right infrastructure,” he emphasized, envisioning a vibrant film industry in the heart of Uttar Pradesh.
Amidst his reflections on the industry and his roots, Jimmy remained grounded and focused. “I stay away from controversies,” he remarked, his voice calm and composed. “My focus is on my work and my family. That’s what matters most to me.”
As the TOI event concluded, Jimmy expressed gratitude for the opportunity to reconnect with his past. “My childhood memories are all here,” he said warmly. “It’s always special to come back.”
Leaving the venue with a sense of fulfillment, Jimmy planned to explore more of Gorakhpur, reconnecting with the city that shaped his early years and continues to hold a special place in his heart.
