‘Kalki 2898 AD‘, the epic sci-fi action film starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles, has struck gold at the North American box office.
The film, which begins its second weekend at the box office, broke another record by becoming the fastest Indian movie to gross $14 million. This has set the film on the path to surpass the North American collections of other major Indian releases, including Ranbir Kapoor‘s ‘Animal’ ($15 million), Jr NTR and Ram Charan’s ‘RRR’ ($15.15 million) and Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’ ($15.23 million).
If the film can keep up the momentum this weekend and beat out the competition from Hollywood releases such as ‘Despicable Me 4’, ‘Inside Out 2’ and ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’, the film could look to taking the crown as the highest-earning film in the US. Currently, ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ occupies the top spot with a lifetime collection of $22 million and ‘Pathaan’ comes in second with a collection of $17.45 million.
With the 4th of July holiday, the film’s collections are expected to receive a significant boost. The extended weekend is also anticipated to draw more audiences, potentially pushing ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ past the $15 million mark in record time. Impressively, the film has managed to surpass the lifetime box office numbers of other Indian releases within just the first 10 days of its release.
