Kangana Ranaut's 'Emergency' CLEARED by CBFC; release date to be announced 'soon'

Actor-BJP MP Kangana Ranaut on Thursday confirmed that her movie ‘Emergency‘ has finally been certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
After weeks of drama, leading to the film getting postponed, the actress on Thursday, took to her social media handle to announce, “We have received the certificate for our movie Emergency.”
“We will be announcing the release date soon, thank you for your patience and support,” she added in her post.
The political drama was initially scheduled to hit theatres across the country on September 6 but couldn’t keep its date as it didn’t get its certificate from the censor board. The film was embroiled in a battle with the board over barring its certification, thus preventing the film from public exhibition.
According to reports, the movie’s certification was held up owing to the controversy it kicked up after Sikh organisations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, accused it of misrepresenting the community and getting facts wrong in the historical pic.

The CBFC told the Bombay High Court on Monday that Ranaut had agreed to the cuts suggested by the board in the movie. Kangana’s production house that is backing the film, also informed the Bombay High Court that it has agreed to the cuts suggested by the CBFC.

During the hearing, the producers requested two weeks to make the required edits in line with CBFC’s recommendations before resubmitting it for certification. The CBFC also informed the court that they would verify the modifications and finalize the film’s certification within two weeks after the changes were implemented.
Earlier in September, Kangana, in an interview with ANI, had opened up about the repercussions being faced by the makers due to delay in the release of the film. “I know how I made this film… I did not get any support from the film industry. It’s made on a huge budget. I along with Zee and other partners created Emergency, and now with the release delay, everyone is bearing a huge loss. Delay release is a loss for all. I think the Censor Board should take the responsibility to release this film at the earliest,” she said.
‘Emergency’, also written, directed and co-produced by Ranaut, features the actor in the role of former prime minister Indira Gandhi.
