Over the past few years Telugu Cinema and Hindi Cinema have been able to create a space for themselves in North America, the biggest market for Indian films outside of India. But when it comes to Tamil Cinema, only a few names like Thalapathy Vijay or Rajinikanth generate a strong buzz. Though post the success of Sivakartikeyan and Sai Pallavi’s ‘Amaran’ one expected things to change for the better and all eyes were set on the next big Tamil film ‘Kanguva‘ which stars Suriya, Bobby Deol and Disha Patani.
‘Saroj Khan Was Fed Up With Me Because…’: Madhuri Dixit’s Legacy — Ram Lakhan To Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3
The film released on 14th November with a very lukewarm response, infact even the advance booking for the film had been very dull. In comparison Allu Arjun’s ‘Pushpa 2- The Rule’ which is slated to release on December 5 is already inching towards US $ 1 million mark for its premiere shows.
Kanguva minted only US $ 442700 from its premiere and first day and was able to add US $ 76,267 on its day 2. Thus taking the overall collection of the film to close to US $ 523,000 ( Rs 4.41 crore) . Even in India the film has failed to cross Rs 50 crore mark within two days of its release, the film has till now collected Rs 42.75 crore.
In the North American circuit the film’s breakeven amount is pegged at US $ 2.5 million and going by the current collection, the film is facing a huge loss. The confounding screenplay and bad word of mouth has marred the prospects of the film. The sequel of the film will now remain in doldrums.
‘Kanguva’ is a fantasy action film directed by Siva and is backed by K E Gnanavel Raja who last produced Chiyaan Vikram, Parvathy and Malavika Mohanan starrer Thangalaan.
