Suriya’s much anticipated film ‘Kanguva’ hit theatres on November 14, 2024, and has been performing steadily at the box office. The film, which also marks the Tamil debut of Disha Patani and Bobby Deol, has garnered mixed reviews from audiences and critics alike. While fans have praised Suriya’s impactful performance, many have criticized the film’s overall storyline for being weak. On the third day of its release, the film made Rs 9.50 crore.
Kanguva Movie Review
According to trade analyst Sacnilk, in its opening weekend, ‘Kanguva’ had a strong start, earning Rs 24 crore on its first day. However, the film experienced a decline in collections on subsequent days. On Day 2, it brought in Rs 9.25 crore, and on Day 3 (Saturday), it saw a slight increase with earnings of Rs 9.50 crore. This brings the total box office collection in India to approximately Rs 42.75 crore.
The film’s occupancy rates indicate a mixed response as well. On November 16, ‘Kanguva’ recorded an overall Tamil occupancy of 21.62%, with morning shows at 16.93%, afternoon shows at 22.71%, evening shows at 18.44%, and night shows peaking at 28.40%. The film also attracted viewers in other languages, with an occupancy rate of 11.93% for Hindi and 23.01% for Telugu.
Directed by Siva, ‘Kanguva’ is described as a fantasy action drama that spans over 1,500 years into the past, featuring epic battle sequences and grand visuals. Suriya plays a dual role as a warrior named Kanguva in the past and a contemporary character named Francis.
Bobby Deol portrays the main antagonist, while Disha Patani plays his love interest in the present timeline.
Despite its impressive visuals and Suriya’s stellar performance, the film has faced criticism for its sound levels; some audiences reported that certain scenes were excessively loud.
