Karan Johar who is making headlines for his recently released action-thriller ‘Kill’, opened up about how it has become necessary for every production house to have a legal team to review scripts to avoid getting into legal conflicts.
During his interaction with Faye D’Souza, Karan Johar explained that there is a fear of legal issues. To avoid court cases and FIRs, they have established legal departments in every organization.Every script, whether for Dharma Productions or their digital arm Dharmatic Entertainment, undergoes internal legal censorship before production. This approach is not due to fear but to avoid the stress and pressure of legal battles, allowing them to focus on their work without unnecessary distractions.
Karan mentioned that Bollywood is often a soft target, with objections frequently coming from people who want to make noise for the wrong reasons. He believes that while many individuals and groups say and do various things, Bollywood faces disproportionate backlash and online attacks for anything it says or does. Recently, Karan approached the Bombay High Court against the makers of the upcoming Hindi movie ‘Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar’ for unlawfully using his name in the title. In his plea, Karan sought a permanent injunction and restraining order against the movie’s producers, writers, and director.
On the work front, Karan is gearing up for the release of his much-awaited film ‘Bad Newz’ starring Vicky Kaushal, Tripti Dimri and Ammy Virk in lead roles. The film is the spiritual sequel to the 2019 hit ‘Good Newwz’, which starred Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh, Akshay Kumar, and Kiara Advani.
