Before becoming a Bollywood icon, Kareena Kapoor Khan entertained the idea of pursuing a career in law. In a candid interview with The Week, she revealed her initial aspirations and the educational experiences that shaped her.
Kareena, who debuted in the film industry alongside Abhishek Bachchan in the 2000 film Refugee, initially thought about becoming a lawyer.”I was a good student. I thought I’d be a lawyer,” she shared.
However, destiny had other plans, and the allure of acting eventually won her over. Reflecting on her academic pursuits, she mentioned attending a summer course at Harvard University, a decision she is particularly proud of. “Yeah, it was summer school. I am very proud of that, that I went to summer school at Harvard. It’s Harvard, I mean, I’ve got a photo on that campus,” Kareena chuckled. This brief academic stint at one of the world’s most prestigious universities significantly influenced her, providing her with a broader perspective and boosting her independence.
Kareena emphasized that her choice to pursue acting was entirely her own, without any pressure from her family. “The idea that no one forced or pushed me into acting was significant. My parents supported whatever I wanted to pursue. I was just figuring things out in summer school, contemplating my future. There was never any pressure from my parents to follow in their footsteps as actors,” she explained.
Discussing her time at Harvard, Kareena noted, “It broadened my horizons, helped me connect with others, and made me much more independent in many ways.” She also credited her boarding school experience at Welham Girls’ School in Dehradun for building her confidence and focus. “It built a lot of confidence, it just does that, I think—boarding schools,” she added.
