Yash Chopra directed the movie, which was released on October 30, 1997, and was a huge box-office success. As the film has completed 27 years at the box office, the film still rules the hearts of audiences. In honour of this momentous milestone, Karisma Kapoor, who won hearts in the movie as Nisha, turned to Instagram to reminisce about it and share two anecdotes.
In her earlier appearance on Indian Idol 12, the actress shared that several other actresses turned down the role of Nisha, and she had initially declined it as well. She ultimately accepted the role because it included dancing alongside Madhuri Dixit, who is renowned for her exceptional dance skills. It was her mother who persuaded her to take the opportunity and work hard on it.
She shared, “Initially, I too said no to it as it was a dance film and involved competition dancing with Madhuri Dixit. I said, ‘This isn’t happening.’ Then, finally, Yash ji and Adi narrated the story to me. My mother told me, ‘You must take up the challenge. You are a big fan of Madhuri Dixit, and you must do it. You work hard, and you will shine.'”
‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai’ was a musical romance, in contrast to other romantic movies from the 1990s, which often featured family drama. Fans still love its iconic dance and songs. Karisma Kapoor gave a remarkable performance as Nisha, who falls in one-sided love with Rahul, played by Shah Rukh Khan. Commercially, ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai’ was a huge success. It became one of the highest-grossing movies of that year and won 23 awards.
