Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Fardeen Khan, Vaani Kapoor, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal and Pragya Jaiswal starrer ‘Khel Khel Mein‘ released in theatres along with ‘Stree 2‘. While the film is getting rave reviews and is targeting to the multiplex going audience, the film did not manage to strike gold at the box office. Infact, ‘Vedaa‘ also released on Independence Day but both these films were dominated by ‘Stree 2’ by a huge margin. One had expected this film to get some benefit of the Raksha bandhan holiday on Monday, however, that doesn’t seem like the case.
‘Khel Khel Mein’ had earned Rs 14.05 crore in its first four days including Saturday and Sunday, but saw a drop on Monday. After earning around Rs 3.85 crore on Sunday, the movie managed to make Rs 1.90 crore on Monday, according to Sacnilk. The total collection of the movie so far is Rs ₹ 15.95 Cr.
ETimes had spoken to some trade experts to know if the film may have fared better business if it did not have a clash with ‘Stree 2’ and they agreed. The Shraddha Kapoor starrer also had a massive release in terms of the number of screens. It saw a release in about 3500 to 4000 screens while ‘Khel Khel Mein’ only released in 900, 1000 screens. Also because the target audience is also very niche. The film is perhaps not meant for the two-tier, three tier cities.
Hence, the trade experts had told ETimes that it would have benefitted if it avoided the clash, as it could have got more screens. Meanwhile, ‘Stree 2’ has continued to dominate the box office even with a huge number on Raksha bandhan, and made it on the top as the biggest opener of 2024 so far.
