However, what has truly ignited the fanbase is a brief but tantalising glimpse of another notorious Spider-Man villain – Rhino. In a scene towards the end of the trailer, fans get a glimpse of the monstrous rhino-like creature in action as he goes up against Kraven in an epic face-off.
While Rhino has previously appeared in ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’, in a robotic suit, this one sees the character believed to be Aleksei Sytsevich, literally transform into a Rhino-like creature while still in his human form.
Interestingly, after the release of the trailer, fans noted a connection between the anti-hero movie and Tom Holland‘s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home‘. The film that played a major role in opening up the Multiverse Saga, seemingly featured visuals of both villains, Kraven and Rhino. A Twitter user shared stills from the trailer that bear a striking similarity with the movie still.
Fans have taken to social media to discuss the implications of this film, with many theorising that ‘Kraven: The Hunter’ could be setting up a larger crossover within the Sony Spider-Man Universe.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s portrayal of Kraven has also been met with praise, with viewers noting his intense and menacing presence on screen. The actor, known for his roles in ‘Kick-Ass’ and ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, appears to have fully embraced the darker aspects of the character, promising a performance that could redefine the villain in the Marvel film landscape.
The trailer was released with a synopsis that read, “Kraven the Hunter is the visceral, action-packed origin story of how and why one of Marvel’s most iconic villains came to be. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Kraven, a man whose complex relationship with his ruthless father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), starts him down a path of vengeance with brutal consequences, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world but also one of its most feared.”
‘Kraven: The Hunter’ is set to hit cinemas in December 2024.
