Legendary Hollywood actor Donald Sutherland passes away at 88 after long illness Filmymeet

Renowned actor Donald Sutherland, whose lengthy career spanned from ‘M.A.S.H.’ to ‘The Hunger Games’, has passed away. He was a prolific film and television actor. He was 88. The actor’s son, Kiefer Sutherland, disclosed his father’s passing on Thursday.
Kiefer Sutherland said on X, “I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film.Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that.”
Sutherland acted in movies such as ‘MASH’, ‘Klute’, and ‘The Dirty Dozen’. One of the Canadian actor’s breakthrough roles was as Hawkeye Pierce, a surgeon in the 1970 film version of ‘MASH’, which was based on Korean War medics. Sutherland has almost 200 film credits to his name.
Born in New Brunswick, Canada, Sutherland began his career as a radio news reporter before relocating to London in 1957. He attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art while he was there. After that, he started playing bit parts in British film and television. The ‘Dirty Dozen’ was an action movie set during World War II that starred Sutherland and premiered in 1967. He was cast in another war picture, Kelly’s Heroes, as the aptly called Sergeant Oddball, thanks to his eccentric demeanor.
However, he was more subdued in 1971’s Klute, where he played a detective aided in his search for a missing individual by a costly call girl. In Alan J. Pakula’s picture, Sutherland co-starred with Jane Fonda, who took home an Oscar for the part. He dated Fonda for two years before the couple split.
He also portrayed an IRA member in ‘The Eagle Has Landed’, a college lecturer who smokes drugs in National Lampoon’s Animal House in the 1970s, and the main character in the 1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers remake. Sutherland portrayed the father of a suicidal adolescent in the Oscar-winning film Ordinary People during the 1980s. In the 2000s, he made the switch to television, making appearances in shows including ‘Commander-in-Chief’ and ‘Dirty Sexy Money’.
Sutherland is the father of four sons and one daughter. The Canadian actor, who has a long list of roles, was honored with an honorary Academy Award in 2017 but never received an Oscar nomination. His death occurs months before the planned publication of his biography, ‘Made Up, But Still True’, which is a book about his personal acting journey.
